Our Philosophy
We believe human bodies are amazing! Our bodies serve us everyday and often suffer injury and illness. Yet even in those situations our bodies still keep going. These amazing bodies are capable of more than we know.
We are committed to enhancing the physical and spiritual health of our students.
Our mission is to honor God through Christ-centered yoga in the power
of the Holy Spirit to enrich the lives of our students and our communities.
Why do we teach? Because we have regained health, flexibility and mobility and overcome fear. We are living a more balanced, less pressured life and enjoying it more than ever. We want you to have that too.
Illness or injury is not a stopping point, they are stepping stones. Together we can use them to get to places we never would have gone before-the best is yet to come!
Our motto is Breath of Life Yoga – Come Alive! because we believe that the right environment can help people relax, revive, and restore body, mind, and spirit.
Meet Liz Crane, RYT, Breath of Life Co-Founder
Thank you for your interest in Breath of Life Yoga and in my background.
Beginnings
I have been practicing yoga for six years.
My background is in dance: I had formal ballet and classical/modern dance training from the ages of four to 18 and taught dance and creative movement classes beginning at age 15.
At adulthood, I decided that dance as a career was not the path for me. I eagerly entered corporate America, but found myself lacking a physical fitness and stress reduction outlet. Then I found yoga.
My Yoga Journey
Yoga was the perfect way for me to enjoy movement and decompress after my corporate workday. I discovered that I love all kinds of yoga: anusara, integral, hot yoga, ashtanga, yoga fit…
The longer I practiced yoga, the more I wanted to learn about nutrition and wellness. Ultimately, I decided to embark on teacher training so that I could incorporate my love of yoga with my passion for teaching. I received my RYT designation in early 2010.
My Promise to You
Are you stressed from your hours spent in the work world?
My goal is to bring the wellness benefits of yoga to working women and men in the Hampton Roads communities.
I look forward to helping you reduce stress, relax, and get fit.
Meet Hope Crane, RYT, Breath of Life Co-Founder
Hello! Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself to you and share a bit of my background.
Beginnings
I began exploring yoga six years ago after my daughter (and Breath of Life Co-Founder), Liz Crane developed an interest in the practice.
As a practicing Christian, I wanted to find out for myself if yoga could play a role in a healthy Christian lifestyle. Much to my delight, I found yoga to be an excellent way to strengthen both my body and my relationship with Christ.
My Yoga Journey
When I began taking yoga classes at the local YMCA, I did so primarily to enjoy a much-needed break from days spent as a primary caregiver for a terminally ill mother. From the very first day, I loved the physical and emotional boost yoga gave me.
Late 2008 and early 2009 was a period of great change and loss in my life. My mother passed away and I was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time. During this challenging time, yoga continued to provide me with a much-needed outlet for stress and anxiety.
I signed up for Christian Yoga teacher training before I had major cancer surgery. I have always been a teacher (home school, church classes, and Sunday school), so it felt natural to want to teach and share the blessings of yoga with others.
Knowing that I would be enrolled in training during my recovery gave me a vision for my future and helped me see my work for what it is: ministering the health benefits of yoga to others.
Through faith in God and my yoga practice I have been able to not only recover lost mobility but to gain abilities I didn’t know were possible!
My Promise to You
There are many of you in the Hampton Roads communities facing health and aging issues.
My goal is to help you discover a way to get strong and reclaim your body and spirit through yoga.
For other cancer patients and survivors, please know that if I can survive these challenges, you can too – and yoga can help.
